Job summary

Amazon Robotics seeks a Sr. Robotics Mechanical Engineer focusing on rotary actuator systems in North Reading, MA. You will own design from concept through deployment, integrating high torque density motors, gear trains, and robust validation for scale across fulfillment sites.

Expect hands-on modeling, FEA, testing, and cross-functional leadership. The role requires strong engineering fundamentals, experience with BLDC, QDD, and strain wave gearing, and a track record of delivering mechanical

Qualifications

• Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and test procedures.
• Bachelor’s degree or above in robotics, mechanical/mechatronics engineering, systems engineering or related field.
• Experience mentoring or training the engineering community on complex technical issues.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the machine design expert for robotic rotary actuator programs.
• Own electromagnetic and mechanical design of custom motors including topology and thermal modeling.
• Drive the technical roadmap for next generation rotary actuator systems.
• Steer electronics packaging, mechanical transmission design, ICDs, spec sheets and assembly sequences.
• Own vendor interactions while embedding Design for Excellence across manufacturability and reliability.
• Write functional specs, design verification plans and test procedures.
• Conduct simulation, evaluation, testing and validation of actuator and electromechanical systems.
• Provide engineering guidance on brake integration, lubrication, and environmental sealing.
• Collaborate with Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality to ensure product launches.
• Mentor junior engineers and model cradle-to-grave ownership.
