Job summary

SIS is seeking a Roadway Permitting Engineer to support power innovation projects in Pittsburgh, PA (and Houston, TX as needed). This full-time, on-site role requires 5+ years of roadway permitting experience and a bachelor’s degree, with preference for candidates in civil or transportation engineering.

You will partner with project managers and environmental permit teams to identify safe road crossings, plan haul routes, and coordinate with local and state agencies.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of roadway permitting experience.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Experience with local/state agencies and DOTs.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Willingness to travel 60–75%.

Responsibilities

• Develops and executes roadway/railroad permitting strategies for power innovation projects, aligning schedule, constructability, and compliance needs.
• Partners with Engineering Project Managers, Environmental Permit Managers, and consultants to identify and site public road crossings, driveway entrances, and access points that can be installed and maintained safely.
• Plans contractor haul routes and access logistics, incorporating weight-restricted roads/bridges and local roadway constraints.
• Interfaces with local and state agencies to align traffic engineering, public safety, roadway conditions and maintenance.
