Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is seeking a senior civil engineer to lead the engineering design for roadway projects in Florida. You will coordinate with project engineers, manage design tasks, and ensure work is delivered on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.

The role requires a PE license, 8–10+ years of roadway experience, strong OpenRoads Designer skills, and experience with FDOT and local/state clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• 8–10+ years of roadway and maintenance of traffic design experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Knowledge of OpenRoads Designer: horizontal/vertical geometry, 3D corridor modeling, plan prep.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with FDOT and local/state clients.
• Familiarity with FDOT design/quantity apps and digital QC processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering design for a discipline with project management responsibilities.
• Coordinate with design teams to meet schedule, budget and quality.
• Provide design status updates to the Project Manager.
• Track budgets and oversee discipline task subtasks.
• Perform QC/QA per PMP guidelines.
• Mentor and coach junior design staff.
• Provide consultative services to clients and attend meetings.
• Collaborate with sub-consultants and internal disciplines.
• Plan and schedule detailed phases of engineering work.
• Design projects using advanced discipline knowledge and guidelines.
• Prepare contract plans, specifications and estimates.
• Ensure alignment and timely project completion.
• Provide technical oversight within the department.
