Job summary

Atradius Trade Credit Insurance Inc. in the United States is seeking a Senior Underwriter to join our underwriting team. You will evaluate and approve limit requests, set risk thresholds, and present recommendations to the Credit Committee, partnering with commercial teams and brokers.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in commercial credit, strong financial analysis, and excellent written and verbal communication. The role offers a hybrid work model with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, finance or economics plus 5 years of commercial credit or lending experience with emphasis on financial analysis
• Master’s degree and/or Credit/Finance Certificate from an accredited organization is a plus
• Effective written and verbal communication skills are critical for updates and recommendations to Risk and Country Directors

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and approve new limit requests within delegated authorities while applying underwriting principles and procedures in line with governance.
• Establish credit insurance exposure thresholds for aggregate risk appetite and maintain risk scores on buyers.
• Set and articulate underwriting strategies for each known buyer group, buyer and sector within the portfolio.
• Monitor exposure development and adjust risk management approach to optimize the claims ratio.
• Prepare and present formal recommendations to the Credit Committee for risk thresholds.
• Serve as risk liaison to commercial team, brokers, and customers.
• Participate in calls and buyer visits to enhance portfolio risk management.
• Ad-hoc project specific deliverables as required

Through its US subsidiary, Atradius Trade Credit Insurance Inc, an opportunity exists for an experienced credit professional to join our Underwriting Team as a Senior Underwriter. In this position your key responsibilities will be:

• Evaluate and approve new limit requests within delegated authorities while applying underwriting principles and procedures in line with corporate governance.
• Establish credit insurance exposure thresholds for aggregate risk appetite and accurately maintain risk scores/ratings on buyers within delegated authorities
• Set and articulate underwriting strategies for each known buyer group, buyer and sector within the portfolio
• Monitor the exposure development of the portfolio and modify the underwriting risk management approach as necessary based on the continual risk assessment of the market, sector, and buyer to optimize the claims ratio
• Prepare and present formal recommendations to the Credit Committee based on fundamental credit analysis for customer requests exceeding specific risk thresholds
• Serve as the Risk liaison to commercial team, brokers, and customers, managing expectations around risk underwriting, pending Credit Committee decisions, and recommended risk appetite.
• Participate in any relevant calls and buyer or customer visits to enhance portfolio risk management and excellence
• Ad-hoc project specific deliverables as required

Technical Skills include:

• Identify appropriate market intelligence to support sustainable and real-time underwriting strategies.
• Analyze corporate financial statements, annual reports and press reports to establish an opinion on the underlying creditworthiness of risks assumed.
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of all components of financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow & accompanying notes)
• Leverage soft credit information using credit rating methodology, proprietary information sources, industry specific credit bureaus, andbottom-up Underwriting strategies to maximize Risk Excellence.

What qualification should you have?

The ideal candidate will have the following profile:

• A bachelor’s degree in business, finance or economics, and 5 years of commercial credit and/or commercial lending experience with an emphasis on financial analysis.
• Master’s degree and/or Credit/Finance Certificate from an accredited organization.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills are critical for the position as you will be providing regular updates and recommendations to our Risk and Country Directors.

• Competitive Salary: $90,000 - $120,000 annually, dependent on experience level with a 10% bonus potential.
