Job summary

Soros Fund Management LLC seeks a hands-on Principal Risk Systems Engineer to join the Risk Development team and own the design of the firm-wide risk platform. You will collaborate with Risk Managers, Quants, and senior technologists to translate complex risk ideas into scalable solutions.

The role requires deep investment risk knowledge, strong coding skills (Python/SQL) and a track record delivering large-scale analytics in finance. Base salary and bonus potential are offered.

Qualifications

• 15+ years in software development, with lead architect experience on large data/analytics platforms in finance.
• Proven ability to run production-scale systems with strict SLAs and large data sizes.
• Deep experience with in-memory analytics or OLAP on data warehouses/lakehouses.

Responsibilities

• Set and own the design of the risk platform, including data models and risk calculations.
• Design fast aggregation of risk and P&L data, with drill-down to funds, strategies and positions.
• Stay hands-on: write production code in Python and SQL; ensure code quality and performance.
• Lead design reviews and set engineering standards; mentor the team.
• Design data models to support intraday and end-of-day risk.
• Deploy workloads on AWS using containers and Kubernetes.
• Lead build-versus-buy decisions on analytics tech.
• Collaborate with Risk and Portfolio Managers to translate needs into designs.
• Improve reliability, speed, monitoring; be the go-to for production issues.
