Job summary

Salsa is seeking a Risk Operations Lead to build and scale our risk function in a fast‑growing embedded payroll environment. You will manage Risk Analysts, develop controls, and partner with Product, Engineering, and Operations to strengthen workflows and decisioning.

You will own risk expertise, refine fraud controls, and monitor key metrics to drive responsible growth while maintaining customer experience and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in risk, fraud, trust & safety, payments, payroll risk, or similar operational teams.
• Experience managing and developing analysts in queue-based or manual-review environments.
• Proven ability to build SOPs, workflows, and escalation structures from scratch.
• Strong fintech/payments background, especially payroll or embedded finance.
• Solid understanding of fraud and operational risk in payroll/payments, including ACH timing, reversals, funds flow, and credit exposure.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of Risk Analysts responsible for day-to-day risk operations.
• Escalation point for the team — document judgment calls and create repeatable decision trees.
• Build and improve SOPs, workflows, escalation paths, and review processes across manual review and case management.
• Improve team performance, operational rigor, and overall risk outcomes.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Operations to implement controls and scale risk operations.
• Monitor fraud rate, loss rate, and approval rate to identify issues and opportunities.
• Refine controls and policies related to fraud, payroll risk, ACH exposure, reversals, and faster payroll.
• Remain steady during high-severity incidents like fraud attacks or payment disruptions.
• Own fraud and operational-risk expertise for the team day to day.
