Job summary

Motorola Solutions in Schaumburg, IL, seeks an RF Circuit Design Engineer to join a small cross-disciplinary team. You will develop high-performance RF hardware from sub-GHz to mmWave, optimize for battery life, and work across analog, digital, and power domains.

You will simulate with ADS/CST, lay out in Cadence Allegro, and collaborate with customers and engineering teams to drive requirements, tests, and validation throughout the product life cycle.

Qualifications

• Discrete RF circuit design experience required including amplifiers, transmitters, receivers, synthesizers, etc.
• 5+ years RF Circuit design experience.
• Thorough understanding of RF test equipment and measurement tools (signal analyzers, generators, network analyzers, oscilloscopes).
• Detailed understanding of RF circuit simulation tools (ADS, MATLAB, HFSS, CST, PSPICE) and lab automation (Python, LabVIEW).
• Experience with Schematic capture and layout tools, Cadence Allegro a plus.
• Wide breadth of hardware design including power supplies, A/Ds, peripherals, batteries, charging circuits.
• Product & feature architecture, requirements, design, and development experience.
• Understanding of antennas—design, simulation tools and measurements preferred.
• Self-starter with ability to work independently and in a team; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Generate schematics including RF, analog, power circuits, interface logic, sensors, peripherals.
• Create hardware designs focusing on discrete RF circuits, PAs, LNAs, backend.
• Develop RF front ends from sub-GHz to mmWave; simulate performance.
• Simulate circuit performance using ADS, CST, Spice, and other tools.
• Perform RF lineup calculations for Rx and Tx technologies and modes.
• Design/optimize circuits for minimal current drain to maximize battery life.
• Implement analog circuits, power supplies and voltage regulators.
• Use Cadence Allegro for PCB routing and high-speed interfaces.
• Drive product requirements, architecture, design and test strategy with customers.
• Write test procedures and interface control documents; support lifecycle.
• Collaborate across hardware, software, FPGA, mechanical teams and customers.
