Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a hands‑on Senior RF/DSP Engineer to expand RF detection and classification for Counter‑UAS products. You will investigate drone links, characterize waveforms, and implement production‑quality DSP components in C++ while validating against real RF data.

The role is individual contributor with collaboration across RF, FPGA, embedded software, and data science teams. U.S. citizenship is required and a strong foundation in DSP and RF is essential.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related technical field.
• Substantial professional experience developing RF, communications, radar, electronic‑warfare, or related signal‑processing systems.
• Strong DSP and digital-communications fundamentals including sampling, matching, and synchronization.
• Hands‑on experience implementing, testing, and debugging DSP algorithms.
• Proficiency writing production‑quality C++ in a Linux environment.
• Experience creating automated tests and replaying recorded data through pipelines.
• Experience with collaborative source control and code review (Git or equivalent).
• US Citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Analyze wideband complex‑IQ recordings from known and unfamiliar RF systems.
• Characterize bandwidth, timing, modulation, synchronization, and other properties.
• Design controlled experiments to isolate transmitter behavior and reveal protocol structure.
• Develop DSP algorithms for detection, demodulation, classification, and tracking.
• Implement and optimize production DSP capabilities in modern C++.
• Use MATLAB or Python for exploration, simulation, and prototyping.
• Document observations and participate in technical reviews with senior staff.
• Collaborate with RF, FPGA, embedded software, data science, test, and mission teams.
