Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a hands-on Principal RF/DSP Engineer to solve hard RF detection and classification problems in Counter-UAS products. You will own targets end-to-end, from hypothesis to production code, focusing on direction finding and robust waveform analysis.

You will lead signal-processing components, validate with field data, and collaborate across RF, FPGA, embedded software, data science, and test teams. This is a senior, individual contributor role requiring US citizenship.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field.
• Substantial experience developing RF or signal-processing systems.
• Strong DSP and digital-communications fundamentals.
• Ability to independently investigate unfamiliar signals via measurements.
• Experience analyzing real complex-IQ data.
• Production-quality C++ in a Linux environment.
• Direction finding and antenna-array signal processing experience.
• Experience with automated tests and data replay.
• Git or equivalent source control experience.
• US Citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the most difficult unfamiliar RF targets from hypothesis to experiment plan.
• Analyze wideband complex-IQ recordings from known and unfamiliar RF systems.
• Characterize bandwidth, timing, modulation, synchronization, and framing.
• Design controlled experiments to isolate transmitter behavior and reveal structure.
• Develop algorithms for burst detection, synchronization, demodulation, and classification.
• Build reusable DSP libraries and validation harnesses used across the team.
• Lead line-of-bearing improvements with array processing and bearing estimation.
• Diagnose DF error sources like mutual coupling and multipath.
• Write production-quality DSP code in C++ and validate against real data.
• Review colleagues' analyses, de-risk approaches, and unblock efforts.
• Identify target classes and recommend technical investments.
