Job summary

University of Washington Medical Center’s UWMC Northwest is seeking a Respiratory Care Specialist to lead staff education and provide advanced respiratory support. The role emphasizes education, coordination of onboarding, and development of evidence-based protocols to improve patient outcomes.

Ideal candidates have WA RCP licensure, an RRT credential, 5+ years in critical care, and 3+ years of leadership. This is a full-time position on first shift with competitive hourly pay and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Current Washington State Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in good standing.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years recent critical care Respiratory Care Practitioner experience required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years demonstrated leadership experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Educate and train staff on new equipment, guidelines, standards and evidence-based practices.
  • Coordinate orientation, competency validation, and preceptorship for new staff.
  • Facilitate conferences, continuing education, and professional development activities.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and clinical expertise in respiratory care practices.
  • Provide advanced respiratory care services and support clinical staff in patient care.
  • Perform patient assessments to determine acuity and prioritize care needs.
  • Develop and evaluate practitioner-driven protocols and guidelines based on evidence.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and departmental performance activities.
  • Investigate methods to improve operational performance, outcomes, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Establish rapport with physicians, nurses, therapists, patients and families.
