Job summary

The City of Alexandria seeks a Senior Residential Counselor for the Domestic Violence Program. The SRC will respond to the 24-hour hotline, provide crisis intervention, counseling, and support to residents in the Safehouse, while ensuring a safe and secure facility.

The role requires trauma-informed understanding, strong record-keeping, and the ability to coordinate with courts, social services, and housing providers. On-call shifts including overnights and weekends are expected.

Qualifications

• Two-year college degree; two years experience in residential or related field.
• Preferred: four-year college degree in Human Services or related field.
• Experience with trauma-informed care and crisis intervention is highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Answer the program’s 24-hour hotline and provide crisis intervention.
• Provide counseling and case management to residents in the Safehouse.
• Conduct intakes for new residents and help with safety planning and housing needs.
• Advocate for clients in legal, social services, and housing matters.
• Monitor resident activities and enforce house rules and goals.
• Respond to emergencies and coordinate with outside agencies as needed.
