Job summary

The City of Alexandria is seeking an Awake Overnight Residential Counselor in Alexandria, VA. The role involves providing residential services to individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities, completing assessments, and helping residents build daily living skills.

Responsibilities include records maintenance, crisis monitoring, medication oversight, and coordinating activities. A high school diploma and valid driver's license are required; state credentials preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED plus completion of post-high-school training/education pertaining to behavioral health, medical health, substance abuse and/or mental health.
• Experience with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance abuse is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete assessments and develop individualized service plans; write weekly progress notes.
• Maintain clinical records following licensing and Medicaid regulations.
• Instruct and guide residents to develop daily living skills and monitor progress.
• Monitor medication management and report concerns to treatment team.
• Participate in treatment team meetings.
• Assist residents with recreational and educational activities.
• Identify crises and refer to appropriate resources and treatment team.
• Report facility maintenance issues.
• Assist residents with grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, and other ADL skill building.
• Provide transportation for residents using City vehicles.
