Job summary

Roche Santa Clara, CA is seeking a Senior Research Engineer to advance next-generation sequencing hardware. You will design, prototype, test, and optimize fluidic, pneumatic, thermal, and optical subsystems within integrated devices in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team.

You will work with CNC, laser cutting, 3D printing, and 3D CAD tools, perform metrology, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to push performance and reliability of sequencing workflows.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Bioengineering or related discipline.
• 2–5 years of relevant research/early development in life sciences.
• Experience designing hardware and prototyping with CNC, laser, and 3D printing.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software for manufacturing drawings.
• Experience with DNA sequencing workflows.
• Experience with bioanalytical instruments (qPCR, dPCR, Bioanalyzer/TapeStation, Qubit, NanoDrop).
• Strong engineering and chemistry fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Design and fabricate parts using CNC, laser cutting, 3D printing.
• Assemble, test, troubleshoot fluidic and electromechanical systems.
• Optimize workflows and analyze data to drive progress.
• Operate and maintain lab equipment including breadboards.
• Use metrology instruments to characterize parts and methods.
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers.
