Job summary

Roche in Santa Clara, CA seeks a Research Engineer II to advance next-generation DNA sequencing workflows. You will tackle chemistry and process development for instrument prototypes, developing assays and characterizing formulations.

Collaborate with scientists and engineers, provide data-driven results, and help translate lab findings into robust, scalable systems. Onsite position with a strong emphasis on innovation and hands-on experimentation.

Qualifications

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering or closely related field.
• 1-5 years for a Bachelor's, 0-4 years for a Master's in life science research.
• Experience with DNA/protein workflows and assay development.
• Familiarity with fluorescence microscopy and spectrometers.
• PCR and gel electrophoresis, and core chemistry/physics knowledge.
• Meticulous, proactive, and eager to learn.

Responsibilities

• Develop orthogonal assays to measure system performance.
• Operate processes for various instruments, including prototypes.
• Test and optimize chemical formulations for DNA sequencing workflows.
• Collect data, document observations, and present results.
• Use analytical instrumentation to characterize chemicals and surfaces.
• Generate experimental plans and reports for a broader audience.
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers.
