Job summary

Peraton is seeking a highly skilled FinOps Cloud Engineer to support the DOI USGS Permitting Modernization and Cloud Infrastructure program. You will own end-to-end cloud cost management across a multi-environment AWS platform, serving 50+ developers, 20 business analysts, and government staff in a FedRAMP-compliant setting.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship or ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.
• Work within United States; all work performed in US.
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD, or associate degree with corresponding years of professional experience.
• 5+ years hands-on cloud engineering experience, with at least 2 years in cloud financial management (FinOps).
• Knowledge of FinOps Foundation Best Practices for cloud and AI including tokenization, tagging strategies.
• Experience managing AWS cost attribution, budgets, and financial reporting in multi-account environments.
• Proven ability to deliver recurring cloud consumption reports and cost optimization deliverables for Government/enterprise clients.
• Advanced proficiency with AWS Cost Management tools (Cost Explorer, Budgets, Cost Anomaly Detection, Trusted Advisor).
• Understanding of Amazon Bedrock or other LLM/AI token-based cost models.
• Experience with Databricks or similar data platform cost management.
• Familiarity with FedRAMP, FISMA, NIST SP 800-53 compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Produce monthly FinOps reports with cloud and AI consumption forecasts vs. actuals.
• Configure and manage AWS Budgets, Cost Explorer, Cost Anomaly Detection, and Trusted Advisor.
• Develop rightsizing recommendation packages and present optimization strategies to Government stakeholders.
• Implement auto-suspend policies for non-production environments to reduce idle costs.
• Manage AI/ML cost tracking for Bedrock LLM inference and token consumption.
• Issue 75% consumption notifications and provide 60-day advance warnings before funding runs out.
• Maintain compliance with FedRAMP Moderate, FISMA, NIST SP 800-53 and related policies.
• Complete mandatory annual security training and required vendor behavior agreements.
