Job summary

Smurfit WestRock is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer in West Point, VA to support maintenance for rotating equipment, tanks, vessels and structural initiatives within the mill maintenance team.

The role requires a BS in mechanical engineering or related field, 3–5 years of mechanical design experience, and proficiency with MS Project and AutoCAD. Occasional contractor supervision and compliance with safety standards are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology.
• At least 3–5 years related work experience in mechanical design, preferably in a paper mill or process manufacturing environment.
• Co-op experience in a heavy industrial facility or equivalent full-time experience.
• Familiarity with OSHA and safety LOTO procedures.

Responsibilities

• Initiate Management of Change (MOC) processes with cost estimates and action items.
• Support Six Sigma projects for maintenance/reliability improvements.
• Collaborate with capital engineering on spare parts and BOM updates for new equipment.
• Develop preventive maintenance plans for new and existing equipment.
• Supervise contractors to ensure safety, schedule, and budget compliance.
