Job summary

Smurfit Westrock Roanoke Rapids Mill is seeking experienced Mechanical Maintenance Technicians to keep state-of-the-art paperboard equipment running efficiently. You will be part of a team performing electrical and mechanical maintenance, supporting preventive and predictive programs, and minimizing downtime.

The role requires a multi-skilled background, knowledge of drives, pumps, hydraulics, welding, and the ability to work weekends. Drug screen after offer may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two-year technical degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent training.
• 3+ years of heavy industrial maintenance experience.
• Multi-skilled maintenance background (mechanical and electrical).
• Knowledge of mechanical drives, pumps, seals, hydraulics, and lubrication.
• Welding experience (stick, MIG, TIG).
• Ability to work weekends/holidays and in varying conditions.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside experienced mentors to perform electrical and mechanical maintenance.
• Support continuous improvement of preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Troubleshoot and repair equipment to minimize downtime and improve reliability.
• Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions for unplanned shutdowns.
• Maintain and troubleshoot advanced control systems (DCS, PLC).
• Interpret blueprints, diagrams, and schematics for process control systems.
• Complete work orders, documentation, and change control procedures accurately.
• Adhere to all plant safety and environmental guidelines.
• Valve and gasket replacement, pump repair/repacking, welding (basic), forklift operation, pipe and tubing installation, cylinder and motor repair, and maintenance of mechanical drive systems.
