Job summary

Asplundh Electrical Testing seeks a Senior Relay Technician to ensure safe, reliable operation of medium- and high‑voltage substations through protective relay testing, commissioning, and maintenance.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of hands-on experience, with NETA credentials preferred, and will lead field crews, support outage planning, and produce accurate test reports.

This role requires regional travel and work at customer sites, with a strong safety culture and commitment to quality.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in protective relaying for utility substations.
• Demonstrated experience testing medium- to high-voltage protection systems (5kV–500kV).
• Strong working knowledge of microprocessor-based relays and modern relay test platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead job briefings and safety tailboards to reinforce a 'Safety First, Always' culture.
• Perform protective relay testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and commissioning on HV systems.
• Test and validate transmission and distribution protection schemes (distance, differential, overcurrent, breaker failure).
• Lead and mentor onsite technicians; coordinate with project managers and utility customers.
• Create accurate test reports, settings, and field documentation.
