Job summary

Asplundh Electrical Testing seeks a Senior Relay Technician to ensure safe, reliable operation of medium‑ and high‑voltage substations through testing, commissioning and maintenance of protection systems.

The role leads field crews, guides outage work, and develops relay technicians while delivering accurate test reports and field documentation. Travel regionally is required; NETA certification desired.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on experience in protective relaying for utility substations.
• Experience testing medium- to high-voltage protection systems (5kV–500kV).
• Strong knowledge of microprocessor-based relays and modern relay test platforms.
• Solid understanding of utility safety rules and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Ability to read protection diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and wiring/logic drawings.

Responsibilities

• Lead job briefings and safety tailboards to reinforce a Safety First culture.
• Perform protective relay testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
• Test and validate transmission and distribution protection schemes.
• Verify control and protection circuits for transformers, breakers, feeders.
• Support outage planning, switching coordination, energization, and restoration.
