Job summary

The State of South Carolina Public Service Commission seeks an experienced attorney to advance complex legal and regulatory matters. As Attorney V, you will advise the Commissioners, draft orders, supervise legal research, and lead cases under the Siting Act.

Requirements include a law degree, ten years practicing law, five years representing Santee Cooper, and current SC Bar membership. Some travel and non-traditional hours may be required.

Qualifications

  • A law degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Ten (10) years of experience as a practicing attorney (may include up to two (2) years of judicial clerkships or two (2) years spent obtaining an LLM degree).
  • Current member of the State Bar of South Carolina and in good standing.
  • Certification of completion of Rule 403 of the South Carolina Appellate Court Rules.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct complex legal and technical research issues and topics relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the Commission.
  • Analyze testimony, court decisions, and legislative acts to advise staff and Commissioners; draft legal advisory memorandums.
  • Draft, edit and review Commission Orders, legal advisory memorandums, and motions; issue Hearing Examiner Directives; manage workflow for timeliness and statutory compliance.
