Senior Red Hat Linux Administrator

Location: Hybrid Annapolis, MD (3 days onsite) & Remote (2 days)

About The Role

Mfinite Consulting is hiring a Senior Red Hat Linux Administrator to support a state government client. We're looking for a Linux expert with advanced experience in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), automation, system optimization, and IT security. This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence in Annapolis, MD, three days per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain RHEL environments across development, test, and production.
• Apply upgrades, patches, and security hardening to meet compliance standards.
• Troubleshoot performance issues and system errors.
• Automate administrative tasks using Ansible, Bash, or Python.
• Administer Red Hat Satellite, IdM, and related tools.
• Collaborate with security teams to address vulnerabilities.
• Optimize storage, backup, and disaster recovery systems.
• Support app teams with Linux-based deployment best practices.
• Maintain thorough documentation for systems and procedures.
• Configure NFS mounts, cron jobs, and system-level scheduling.
• Provide on-call support as needed.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. (Degrees in Agricultural and Resource Economics or Business Administration are not considered relevant.)
• Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), current or expired, with valid cert ID.
  
  

Preferred Experience

• 10+ years in Red Hat system administration
• 10+ years with Unix (AIX) on IBM pSeries
• 15+ years in IT overall
  
  

Preferred Skills

• Experience with:
• Oracle WebLogic, Oracle DB, Progress 4GL/OpenEdge
• Apache, vSphere-hosted RHEL, Rubrik, Elastic Search, Oracle OBI
• PeopleSoft, Mobius, CVS (Concurrent Version System)
• Strong Red Hat tuning, load balancing, partitioning, and recovery skills
• Full-stack troubleshooting (OS, DB, application)
• Excellent collaboration and communication abilities
  
  

Work Environment

• Hybrid schedule: 3 days onsite in Annapolis, MD / 2 days remote
• On-site support may be required with 24 hours' notice
• Flexibility for extended hours, including evenings/weekends/holidays
  
  

Additional Info

• An initial training period (24 weeks) will be provided to ramp up on client-specific tools and processes
• Remote work must be performed within the U.S. (approval required for exceptions)
