Job summary

Fairbanks North Star Borough seeks a recreation professional to supervise staff and deliver safe, engaging programs at our ice arena and recreation facilities. The role covers evenings, weekends, and event support within the Parks & Recreation Department.

You will plan and run activities for children, adults, and individuals with disabilities, while ensuring safety rules and quality service. Requires 21+ years, valid license, and emergency certifications upon hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree preferred in recreation management or related field.
• Minimum two years of direct experience organizing events or programs for various groups.
• Minimum six months of supervisory experience required.
• Six months of public-facing work, cash handling, and computer use.
• Certifications: Standard First Aid, CPR/AED within three months of hire.
• Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site technical direction of work production to lower-level staff.
• Offer indoor/outdoor recreation activities for diverse participants.
• Issue passes for skating and enforce safety rules in the ice rink.
• Perform custodial duties and light maintenance of facilities.
• Open/close facilities and assist in event setup at multiple venues.
• Plan, organize, and implement new special events and programs.
• Register participants and communicate with parents, teachers, and caregivers.
• Operate a POS system and process payments; manage reservations.
