Job summary

Fairbanks North Star Borough is seeking a Recreation Supervisor to ensure safe, orderly operations for the Parks & Recreation Department. The role supports program development and supervises staff when the Facility Supervisor is absent.

Weekend and evening work is required as scheduled. The role includes supervising 2-3 Recreation Specialists and Facility Custodians, handling cash transactions, and coordinating events at the ice arena and other facilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or higher preferred in Recreation Management or related field.
• Minimum two years of experience organizing events or teaching programs for various groups.
• Minimum six months of supervisory experience.
• Cash handling experience and public-facing interaction required.
• Ability to obtain Standard First Aid, Adult CPR, and AED within 3 months.
• Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site technical direction of work production to lower-level staff.
• Deliver indoor/outdoor recreation activities for all ages and abilities.
• Issue passes for skating and enforce safety rules in the ice rink.
• Perform routine cleanup and custodial duties in locker rooms and seating areas.
• Clean, sharpen, and maintain ice skates and equipment.
• Render emergency first aid as appropriate and report safety concerns.
• Inspect facilities for damage and safety hazards and report.
• Inform participants of facility rules and assist with program questions.
• Check patrons in and out of locker rooms and manage sign-in sheets.
• Assist in setup and takedown of facilities for events at multiple venues.
• Open/close facilities and coordinate daily activity schedules.
• Plan, organize, and implement new special events and programs.
• Register participants and communicate with families and organizations.
