Job summary

The City of Martinez Recreation Department seeks motivated individuals to direct and supervise a variety of youth and community programs. Under general supervision you will set up facilities, coordinate activities, and ensure safety and quality service for participants.

This temporary, part-time role focuses on scheduling, leading site activities, coordinating staff and volunteers, maintaining records, and delivering engaging experiences at city facilities and events.

Qualifications

• Minimum Age: 18 years.
• Equivalent to two years of paid or volunteer work as a group leader or lead worker in an organized recreation or community service program with specific expertise or experience in program area of recruitment.
• Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a California Class C Driver License.
• Experience working with seniors or children in a sport setting, day camp, childcare program, youth program or summer camp is desired.
• Background check/fingerprinting and documentation of a negative TB skin test within the last two years are required.
• Be able to obtain certification in American Red Cross Adult/Pediatric First Aid/CPR and AED or equivalent within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and manage recreation programs, activities, and events.
• Serve as site leader of program site, overseeing the implementation of program activities, procedures, and goals.
• Develop and implement program curriculum, schedules, and timelines. Supervise other department staff, volunteers, and contractors.
• Facilitate problem-solving.
• Develop activities for group recreation and community events.
• Develop program objectives.
• Prepare and maintain reports and records of program activities.
• Provide excellent customer service.
• Set up and break down at City facilities and equipment; maintain facilities and equipment.
• Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor in area of assignment.
