Job summary

AlphaGen in Houston, TX, seeks a Sr. Generation Dispatcher for its Real Time Desk to oversee the real-time dispatch of generation assets within PJM.

You will coordinate with PJM system operators, plant personnel, and transmission providers to balance resources with load, ensuring reliability and regulatory compliance. The role requires 10+ years of dispatch experience, strong knowledge of grid operations, and proficiency with SCADA/EMS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience will be strongly considered.
• 10+ years of experience in generation dispatch or PJM market operations.
• Strong knowledge of power generation, grid operations, and real-time balancing.
• Proficiency with SCADA, EMS, and dispatch software platforms.
• Familiarity with PJM dispatch protocols, LMP pricing, and regulatory standards.
• Superior analytical and problem‑solving skills for situational awareness.
• Ability to make sound decisions under pressure in real-time operations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergencies.
• NERC System Operator Certification may be required; PJM Generation certification within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and dispatch AlphaGen’s real-time generation assets to meet system demand and market commitments.
• Align dispatch with PJM instructions and market schedules.
• Execute dispatch instructions based on real-time conditions and optimization strategies within regulatory constraints.
• Coordinate with plant operators, PJM operators, and transmission providers for reliable operations.
• Maintain logs of dispatch activities, asset performance data, and PJM communications.
• Support demand response or system reductions as required.
• Ensure compliance with NERC reliability standards and PJM market rules.
• Participate in post-event analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Work rotating shifts to ensure 24/7 coverage.
