Job summary

AlphaGen is seeking a Senior Generation Dispatcher for its Real Time Desk in Houston, TX. You will oversee the real-time dispatch of AlphaGen’s generation assets within PJM, coordinating with PJM operators, plant personnel, and internal teams to balance supply and demand while ensuring reliability and regulatory compliance.

The role requires a strong background in power systems, at least 10 years in generation dispatch, and proficiency with SCADA/EMS and dispatch platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field preferred or relevant experience considered
• Minimum of 10 years in generation dispatch or PJM market operations
• Strong knowledge of power generation principles, grid operations, and real-time balancing
• Proficiency with SCADA, EMS, and dispatch software platforms
• Familiarity with PJM dispatch protocols, LMP pricing, and regulatory compliance standards
• Excellent analytical and communication skills
• Ability to make sound decisions under pressure in a real-time operations setting
• Willingness to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
• NERC System Operator Certification may be required and PJM Generation certification within 1 year

Responsibilities

• Monitor and dispatch AlphaGen’s real-time generation assets to meet system demand and market commitments
• Ensure alignment with PJM dispatch instructions and market schedules
• Execute dispatch instructions based on real-time conditions and optimization strategies
• Address PJM directives in accordance with market requirements and guidelines
• Coordinate with plant operators, PJM operators, and transmission providers for reliable generation operations
• Address system events and alarms with appropriate corrective measures
• Maintain real-time logs of dispatch activities and asset performance for compliance
• Assist in demand response or system reductions when required
• Ensure compliance with NERC reliability standards and ISO/RTO market rules
• Participate in post-event analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
• Willingness to work rotating shifts to cover 24/7 operations
