Job summary

AlphaGen Houston is seeking a Senior Generation Dispatcher to oversee real-time dispatch of generation assets within PJM, coordinating with PJM operators, plant personnel, and transmission providers to balance supply with demand while following market rules and NERC standards.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience, 10+ years in generation dispatch or PJM operations, proficiency with SCADA/EMS, PJM protocols, and the ability to work rotating shifts

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience in lieu of degree considered.
• Minimum of 10 years in generation dispatch or PJM market operations.
• Strong knowledge of power generation principles, grid operations, and real-time balancing.
• Proficiency with SCADA, EMS, and dispatch software platforms.
• Familiarity with PJM dispatch protocols, LMP pricing, and compliance standards.
• PJM Generation certification or willingness to obtain within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and dispatch real-time generation assets to meet system demand and market commitments.
• Ensure alignment with PJM dispatch instructions and market schedules.
• Execute dispatch instructions based on real-time conditions and optimization strategies.
• Address PJM directives and operate within market requirements and guidelines.
• Coordinate with plant operators, PJM operators, and transmission providers for reliable operations.
• Respond to system events and alarms with appropriate corrective actions.
• Maintain real-time awareness of asset availability, fuel constraints, and congestion issues in systems.
• Communicate changes in availability or market conditions to stakeholders.
• Keep logs of dispatch activities and communication per compliance requirements.
• Assist in demand response or system reductions as required.
• Ensure compliance with NERC and ISO/RTO market rules.
