Job summary

Level AI is seeking a systems-oriented engine engineer in Austin to help build and evolve a robust technology platform spanning web, desktop, Chromebooks, iPads, and mobile. You will work in engine internals, modify engine source, and shape architecture with significant autonomy within a high-bar engineering culture that leans into AI-assisted development.

The role requires deep C++ expertise and 7+ years in game engines or real-time systems, with proven experience shipping executable software

Qualifications

• Strong professional C++ experience required.
• 7+ years in game engines or real-time systems.
• Direct experience modifying engine source code.
• Experience shipping games or real-time software products.
• Strong debugging and profiling skills.
• Solid memory, CPU, threading, and data layout understanding.
• Experience solving cross-platform issues and architecture reasoning.
• Ability to build reusable engine systems and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Work across engine architecture, runtime systems, memory management, multithreading, asset loading and streaming, serialization, and build systems.
• Modify and extend forked Godot engine to meet product/platform needs.
• Identify and resolve architecture and performance issues at the engine level.
• Build reusable engine systems and tooling to boost productivity of engineers and content creators.
• Address cross-platform compatibility for web, desktop, Chromebooks, iPads, and mobile.
• Profile and optimize CPU, memory, and runtime performance.
• Navigate and improve a large evolving codebase.
• Contribute to engineering practices, mentor engineers, and guide engine/platform decisions.
• Experiment with AI-assisted development tools to improve workflows.
