Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is building the future of institutional trading. As a Risk Architect on the Trading team, you will design, build, and own the real-time risk engine across assets, serving Retail, Prime, and wholesale clients.

You will lead architecture, ensure low latency and high throughput, own SLOs and incident response, and mentor engineers while collaborating with Product, Trading, Financing/Credit Risk, Security, and Compliance to translate vision into a roadmap.

Qualifications

• Hands-on architect capable of designing, building, deploying and supporting 24/7 risk systems handling billions of dollars daily.
• Extensive backend engineering experience with production-grade distributed systems ownership.
• Experience with cross-asset risk systems (crypto, equities, derivatives) in real-time, cross-portfolio evaluation.
• Deep proficiency in Java and high-throughput messaging technologies for low-latency systems.
• Experience with multifactor and borrow risk, margin or clearing in regulated environments.
• End-to-end delivery experience: scope, architecture, implementation, monitoring, iteration.
• Ability to balance engineering trade-offs with end-user quality; shipping proven products.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture of the real-time, cross-asset risk and margin engine for user and portfolio modeling.
• Design low-latency, high-throughput risk systems aligned with a growing trading platform.
• Drive reliability, observability, SLOs and incident response for risk-critical systems.
• Set technical standards, perform reviews, and reduce critical debt affecting risk systems.
• Mentor engineers and act as the risk-architecture anchor for the team.
• Partner with Product, Trading, Financing/Credit Risk, Security, and Compliance to turn vision into roadmap.
