Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is hiring a Risk Architect to own and evolve the real-time, cross-asset risk engine that supports our trading platform across Retail, Prime, and wholesale services.

You will design, build, and run high-availability risk systems and partner with Product, Trading, and Compliance to turn technical vision into a concrete roadmap. The role emphasizes ownership of architecture, performance, and reliability, with mentorship of engineers and a strong focus on reducing risk of failure

Qualifications

• Hands-on architect who can design, build, deploy, and support 24/7 risk systems processing billions in transactions daily.
• Extensive backend engineering experience with production-grade distributed systems ownership.
• Cross-asset risk system experience with real-time, cross-portfolio evaluation at scale.
• Proficiency in low-latency Java and high-throughput messaging.
• Experience with multifactor and borrow risk, margin, or clearing in regulated environments.
• End-to-end project delivery: scoping, architecture, implementation, monitoring, iteration.
• Balances engineering trade-offs with end-user quality and shipped products.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture of the real-time, cross-asset risk and margin engine for user and portfolio modeling.
• Design low-latency, high-throughput risk systems with correct, scalable performance.
• Drive reliability and observability, owning SLOs and incident response for risk systems.
• Set technical bar through code reviews, design standards, and debt reduction.
• Mentor engineers and reduce single points of failure across the team.
• Collaborate with Product, Trading, Financing/Credit Risk, Security, and Compliance to map the roadmap.
