Job summary

Coinbase, a remote-first company with quarterly in-person surges, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer - Risk). You will lead the design and delivery of risk platform features, partnering with Data Science, ML, Risk Analysts, Product and Compliance to balance fraud prevention with user experience.

You will mentor engineers, drive architecture decisions for scalable systems, and own reliability through proactive debt reduction and incident response practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering delivering high-impact systems in production.
• Proficient in Go, Ruby, Python or Java with distributed architectures and microservices.
• Experience leading end-to-end projects and mentoring engineers.
• Experience leading incident response and post-mortems to improve reliability.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of complex risk platform features end-to-end from architecture to deployment and monitoring.
• Drive architectural decisions shaping risk detection and mitigation systems.
• Partner with Data Science, ML, Risk Analysts, Product and Compliance teams to build proactive and reactive risk solutions.
• Build AI-native risk systems that automate detection and response workflows.
• Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and promote engineering best practices.
• Own system quality and reliability, addressing technical debt and incident response.
