Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Sr. Staff Technical Risk Architect to design and own the real-time, cross-asset risk and margin engine for a unified trading platform. The role focuses on low-latency, high-throughput systems with strong emphasis on reliability and incident response.

You will mentor engineers, set technical standards, and collaborate across Product, Trading, Security, and Compliance to translate technical vision into a roadmap. Remote-friendly US-based position with equity/bonus eligibility.

Qualifications

• Architect and operate 24/7 risk systems processing billions daily.
• Extensive backend engineering experience with distributed systems.
• Experience with cross-asset risk systems and real-time evaluation.
• Proficiency in low-latency Java and high-throughput messaging.
• Experience with multifactor and borrow risk in regulated environments.
• End-to-end project delivery from scoping to monitoring.
• Ability to balance engineering trade-offs with user quality.
• Use of generative AI with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Own the real-time cross-asset risk and margin engine.
• Design low-latency, high-throughput risk systems.
• Drive reliability, SLOs, observability and incident response.
• Set technical bar via code reviews and standards.
• Mentor engineers and reduce single points of failure.
