Job summary

Roblox is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Real-time Analytics Platform to design, build, and scale core OLAP infrastructure powering sub-second analytical queries for 200M+ daily users. You will own StarRocks and Apache Druid, drive high-throughput ingestion, and push MPP engine performance while shaping the next generation of the analytics stack.

You will lead architecture, optimize query plans, implement streaming pipelines with Kafka/Flink, and mentor engineers across teams.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience building, designing, testing and maintaining production-grade, large-scale distributed systems.
• Deep OLAP & MPP Engine Depth: Experience with StarRocks or OLAP engines like Apache Druid/ClickHouse/Doris/Pinot/Trino.
• Streaming & Ingestion Architecture: High-volume streaming ingestion with Kafka/Flink or CDC pipelines.
• Data Modeling & Query Optimization: OLAP schema design and tuned cost-based SQL for massive scale.
• Strong Engineering Foundations: Java, Go, C++, or Scala in distributed backend code.
• Infrastructure & Orchestration: Kubernetes and Terraform on AWS or GCP.
• Technical Leadership: Influence direction, mentor engineers, drive cross-team alignment.
• B.S. equivalent in CS or sufficient experience.
• Bonus: Open-source OLAP contributions; experience with real-time analytics at large scale.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end architecture and scalability of high-throughput OLAP engines (StarRocks, Druid).
• Optimize query engine performance: CBO, vectorized execution, memory and serialization efficiency.
• Architect streaming ingestion pipelines using Kafka, Flink and native load mechanisms.
• Guide data modeling for MPP databases: partitioning, bucketing, sort keys, materialized views.
• Manage cluster infrastructure and capacity with Kubernetes and Terraform across clouds.
• Advance autonomous interfaces by integrating AI/ML capabilities in query platforms.
