Job summary

PrizePicks is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails) to join the Gamification team. You will design, build, and own Rails-based backend services powering our platform, tackling high-scope problems and mentoring engineers across the organization.

This role focuses on scalable backend systems and reliable deployment. You will collaborate with Product, Design, QA, and other teams to translate product goals into technical solutions.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience with production Ruby on Rails applications.
• Proven track record of owning and delivering complex, multi‑component features in a team environment.
• Experience designing and operating backend systems that handle significant scale and complexity.

Responsibilities

• Design and build Rails-based backend services powering core platform.
• Own the technical delivery end-to-end from requirements to deployment.
• Drive system reliability by diagnosing bottlenecks and optimizing queries.
• Define architectural direction and tradeoffs for team services.
• Mentor engineers and provide code reviews and guidance.
• Improve practices around testing, observability, and deployment.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, QA and other teams to translate goals into solutions.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and incident response.
