Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years building and operating production web applications with Ruby on Rails.
• Strong relational DB skills (MySQL or similar) and safe migrations in a multi-tenant app.
• Experience deploying, running, and debugging apps in AWS, including containers, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
• Solid grasp of secure web development and data privacy.
• Daily, hands-on use of AI-assisted development tools beyond autocomplete.
• Ability to mentor teammates and communicate across time zones.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, ship, and support features across the Evaluation application.
• Build and improve AI-powered product features: integrate LLMs into real workflows and design prompts, safeguards, and quality checks.
• Build and maintain data integrations between Evaluation and other systems with emphasis on reliability and data quality.
• Lead technical improvements on the roadmap: reduce technical debt and modernize parts of the app.
• Write clean, high-quality, testable, secure, and maintainable code; strengthen automated testing practices.
• Operate in AWS using CI/CD and infrastructure as code; troubleshoot production issues end-to-end.
• Meet FERPA, state student-privacy, and WCAG accessibility requirements.
• Use AI-assisted development tools as a core part of the workflow while ensuring outputs are checked.
• Shape how the team uses AI in the development lifecycle with shared conventions and guardrails.
• Partner with Product Management to refine requirements and translate specs into scalable implementations.
• Mentor teammates through code review, pairing, and technical planning, with thorough documentation.
• Other duties as assigned.
