Job summary

Hatch in Chicago, IL is seeking a Senior Rail Systems Signal and Train Control Engineer to lead design, testing and implementation of railroad signal systems. The role requires a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years of experience and PE is a plus.

Location can be Chicago, IL or Pittsburgh, PA, with travel as needed. Responsibilities include designing grade crossing warning systems, signal logic, block designs, preparation of drawings and specs, and field verification.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
10+ years of experience in design, installation, signal testing, and operation of railroad/rail transit signal systems.
Design experience with signal and train control systems, ATC/PTC/CBTC, interlocking processors, and highway crossing warning systems.
Project management experience; PE license is a plus.

Responsibilities

Prepare designs for grade crossing warning systems per regulations.
Prepare designs for signal system logic (microprocessor and relay-based).
Lead development of signal system block designs based on performance criteria and schedules.
Prepare signal system drawings (Route and Aspect, Track and Signal, etc.).
Develop material and construction specifications and quantity estimates.
Perform field inspections, report drafting and signal testing assistance.
Collaborate with clients to incorporate signal requirements into contract documents.
