Job summary

Hatch Ltd. in Chicago, IL seeks a Senior Rail Systems Signal and Train Control Engineer with a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering and 10+ years of experience in signal systems design, test, and operation for rail transit projects.

The role involves leading designs for grade crossing warning systems, signal logic, block designs, and interlockings, plus field inspections and client collaboration to deliver safe, reliable rail solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years of relevant experience including design, installation, signal system testing, operation and maintenance.
• Project Management experience is a plus and Professional Engineer license is beneficial.
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to work well in a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare designs for grade crossing warning systems in accordance with state and federal regulations.
• Prepare designs for signal system logic including both microprocessor and relay-based systems.
• Lead the development of signal system block designs based on train performance criteria and headway analysis.
• Prepare signal system drawings (Route and Aspect, Track and Signal, Typical and Detailed Circuits).
• Develop material and construction specifications and quantity estimates.
• Perform field inspections, report drafting and signal testing assistance.
• Collaborate with clients to incorporate signal requirements into Contract Documents.
