Job summary

Hatch Ltd. seeks a Senior Signal and Train Control Engineer for its Rail Systems team in the United States.

The role focuses on design, installation and testing of railroad signal systems, including ATC, PTC, CBTC, and interlocking technologies. The candidate will lead block design, develop contract drawings, and collaborate with clients to deliver safe, compliant solutions for rail transit projects in Chicago, IL or Pittsburgh, PA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 10+ years in design, installation, signal testing, and operation/maintenance of railroad or rail transit signal systems.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare designs for grade crossing warning systems per regulations.
  • Develop signal system logic for microprocessor and relay-based systems.
  • Lead development of block designs based on train performance and headway analyses.
  • Create signal system drawings (Route & Aspect, Track & Signal).
  • Develop material and construction specs and quantity estimates.
  • Perform field inspections and signal testing support.
  • Collaborate with clients to incorporate signal requirements into Contract Documents.
  • Contribute to innovative solutions on projects.

Hatch, one of the nation’s most respected consultants to the railroad and rail transit industries, is currently seeking candidates for the following position:

Requirements

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, and 10 or more years of relevant experience including design, installation, signal system testing, and operation and maintenance of railroad and/or rail transit signal systems. Design experience includes signal and train control systems, block design, ATC, PTC, CBTC, microprocessor and relay-based interlockings, as well as highway crossing warning systems. Candidates must be skilled in the preparation of contract drawings, specifications, cost estimating, field verification, inspection and testing (FRA & Transit). Project Management experience and a Professional Engineer license are a plus.

We are seeking a results-driven engineering professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment. Candidates must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of quality, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Working background with DC Coded Track Circuits, AF Track Circuits, Crossing Predictors, MicroLok® and VPI/ iVPI® Vital/Non-Vital Interlocking Processors preferred. PTC and CBTC experience is an advantage.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare designs for grade crossing warning systems in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Prepare designs for signal system logic including both microprocessor and relay-based systems.
  • Lead the development of signal system block designs based on train performance criteria, product specifications, and train schedule headway and run time analysis.
  • Prepare signal system-related drawings (Route and Aspect, Track and Signal, Typical and Detailed Circuits, etc.)
  • Develop material and construction specifications and quantity estimates.
  • Perform field inspections, report drafting and signal testing assistance.
  • Work with clients and incorporate their signal requirements into Contract Documents.
  • Collaborate on exciting projects to develop innovative solutions
