Job summary

Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Company is seeking an experienced Trainmaster to supervise train and engine crews and ensure safe, efficient operations. The role enforces FRA regulations, company rules, and safety policies while coordinating with dispatch, mechanical, and customer service teams.

The position requires leadership and strong decision-making abilities in a demanding environment. The Trainmaster will work outdoors in all weather, with variable hours, including nights, weekends,

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Prior railroad operations experience preferred.
• Supervisory or leadership experience required.

Responsibilities

• Manage safe and efficient train operations at all times.
• Enforce compliance with FRA regulations, operating rules, safety policies, and labor agreements.
• Supervise train and engine crews to ensure rule and schedule adherence.
• Conduct tests, efficiency checks, and rule compliance observations.
• Investigate accidents and incidents and complete required reports and documentation.
• Lead and coach employees to improve performance and safety.
• Coordinate operations with dispatch, mechanical, engineering, and customer service teams.
• Respond to emergencies and after-hours incidents.
• Plan crew resources to meet operational demands.
• Ensure timely completion of investigations and regulatory documentation.
