Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Principal Project Manager to join our Transportation team in the New Jersey and New York City Metro Area. The role focuses on rail infrastructure projects for NJ Transit, requiring deep knowledge of design, construction, and public agency processes.

Ideal candidates bring 15+ years in infrastructure/transit management, with 10+ years leading multi-disciplinary teams and strong client-relations skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 15+ years’ relevant experience in the infrastructure and/or transit industry managing rail or transit projects.
• 10+ years’ experience in managing multi-disciplinary project teams and managing engineering proposals.
• Construction Management and/or Resident Engineering experience with NJ Transit or equivalent public agencies.
• Comprehensive knowledge of NJ Transit project delivery processes.
• Strong writing skills for proposals, technical reports, and construction specifications.
• Experience in growing client relationships and establishing connections with NJ Transit project managers.

Responsibilities

• Lead the pursuit and execution of CD, PE, FD & Construction Management Phases of Rail Infrastructure projects, evaluating plans and alternatives.
• Identify opportunities through client engagement and support transportation business development in NJ/NY.
• Foster high‑performance teams, mentor staff, and promote analytical problem solving.
• Coordinate with multiple disciplines to ensure on‑time, within-scope project delivery from startup to final design.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Urban Planning

NJ PE license

NY PE license

NJ PP license or AICP Certification
