Job summary

The State of Tennessee, Department of Safety and Homeland Security, seeks a Radio Communications Technician in Nashville. This on-site position leads the installation, maintenance, and repair of radio systems, including base stations and towers, to support a 24/7/365 operation.

Qualifications

• Education equivalent to completion of one year of coursework at a vocational or technical school in communication equipment repair or related field.
• Experience equivalent to four years of increasingly responsible full-time communications technical work; qualifying full-time work may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Repairs, installs, and maintains radio transmitting equipment and systems (fixed, mobile, portable) and related equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance per FCC guidelines and manufacturer specs to prevent failures and ensure compliance.
• Program system parameters, talk groups, and frequencies using specialized software.
• Assess daily problems and determine actions based on service priorities and safety considerations.
• Program transceivers, IP routers, switches, and safety equipment using appropriate software.
• Oversee vendor/contractor work on-site and coordinate schedules.
• Coordinate installation/removal/repair logistics of radio systems and ensure interoperability.
• Visually inspect equipment and test for faults using measurement tools.
