Location: Nashville, TN (Davidson County). Salary: $54,744.00 – $68,328.00 annually. Type: Full-Time.

Qualifications

Education and experience: Completion of one year of coursework at a vocational or technical school in communication equipment repair or a related field and three years of full‑time communications technical work or computer networking experience. Substitutions: Additional experience may replace the education one year for one year; higher education in electrical engineering, information technology, or a related field may replace experience up to two years.

Overview

The Tennessee Department of Transportation is hiring a full‑time ITS Communications Technician - Level 2 for our Traffic Operations Division in Davidson County. The position is primarily office‑based with considerable field work. The ITS Communications Section designs, procures, installs, repairs, and maintains TDOT's mission‑critical land mobile radio system, supporting highway maintenance and incident management personnel 24/7/365, as well as TDOT’s interoperability communications, Intelligent Transportation Systems, and connected vehicle programs.

Responsibilities

Maintain analog and digital radio communication systems, including land mobile radio systems, Ethernet Internet Protocol wide‑area networks, high‑capacity microwave radio backhaul systems, mobile radio site repeaters, dispatch consoles, antennas, towers, tower obstruction lighting, shelters and generators.
Troubleshoot system failures to identify and resolve issues in LMR systems and associated infrastructure.
Perform installation of various analog and digital radio communication systems for TDOT, including land mobile radio systems, advanced connected vehicle radio systems, high‑capacity backhaul microwave systems, and IP computer networking systems.
