Job summary

Our client seeks an experienced Radiation Safety Officer to lead radiation protection at its licensed facility in Richland, WA. The RSO ensures compliance with the radioactive materials license, trains staff on safety principles, and acts as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities.

The role requires 10+ years in radiation protection, including 3+ years in a supervisory/RSO position, and a B.S. in Health Physics or related field.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Health Physics or a related field; equivalent experience may substitute.
  • 10+ years of full-time radiation protection experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory/RSO role.
  • Proficiency with radiation safety software and related computer tools.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with the radioactive materials license and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accountability of all radioactive materials and secure them against unauthorized removal.
  • Verify that radioactive materials are handled only by qualified personnel.
  • Oversee personnel monitoring for internal and external radiation exposure.
  • Maintain records required by the license and company policies.
  • Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies and prepare license amendments.
  • Develop and deliver radiation safety training with testing and documentation.
  • Operate and train others on counting equipment and survey instruments.
