Job summary

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is hiring a Radiation Control Technician within the RPG of the Environment, Health, and Safety division. The role covers radiological protection and radioactive material management in supporting lab operations, including surveillance, surveys, and ensuring ALARA compliance.

The position has two levels (3 and 4) with expanding responsibilities such as complex surveys, customer consultation, and incident action planning.

Qualifications

• Understanding of radiation measurement and radioisotope handling principles.
• Experience with developing and providing technical advice and procedures for radiological safety.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform radiological surveys (radiation, contamination, airborne radioactivity).
• Perform routine, specialized, and advanced radiological surveys in various work areas.
• Conduct release surveys of materials and equipment from radiological-controlled areas.
• Evaluate radiological conditions to support work authorizations and survey plans.
• Post/label areas and items controlled for radiological purposes.
• Conduct assessments and audits related to radiological incidents and emergencies.
• Respond to contaminated personnel/areas and radiological incidents and emergencies.
• Plan complex radiological work activities with minimal oversight.
• Provide radiological support during preparation, packaging, and shipment of radioactive materials.
• Verify worker compliance to radiological safety standards and ALARA practices.
