Job summary

AtlasBase in South San Francisco seeks a Senior/Staff RD Systems Integration Scientist to lead hands-on integration of our electrochemical enzymatic DNA synthesis platform on CMOS chips. You will bridge chemistry, surface science, microfluidics, software automation, and CMOS hardware, owning prototype testbeds and control software.

This role requires an advanced degree with 5–8+ years of R&D experience, strong leadership, and the ability to transfer research into product-ready workflows.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or M.S. in a closely related engineering discipline.
• 8+ years of industry R&D experience for master's holders, or 5+ years for Ph.D. holders.
• Experience translating bio-hardware and microfluidics from research to product.
• Strong system-level troubleshooting across bio-instrumentation and software.
• Proven leadership and mentorship of junior researchers.

Responsibilities

• Lead system integration of CMOS chip-based enzymatic DNA synthesis workflows.
• Bridge chemistry, surface science, microfluidics, software automation, and CMOS hardware.
• Perform failure-mode analysis to diagnose root causes across multiple disciplines.
• Collaborate with hardware and software teams to improve prototype testbeds.
• Drive technology transfer from research to product-facing stages.
• Analyze experimental data using molecular biology and scripting tools.
• Mentor junior researchers and engineers.
• Define scientific objectives aligned with company goals.
