Job summary

Fivetran, a leader in data infrastructure, seeks a Senior R&D Software Engineer to join the AI team in New York. You will drive the open data infrastructure that powers trusted AI agents, building scalable back-end and front-end systems, and shaping the roadmap for an innovative AI platform.

You’ll prototype retrieval techniques, ship production features, and own reliability while collaborating with product, design, and AI researchers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of programming experience across Python and/or Java.
• Ability to move fluently between back-end and front-end work.
• Comfort reading AI/ML research and turning findings into prototypes.
• Strong product and market awareness to judge which techniques are worth building.
• Experience with SQL and data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks).

Responsibilities

• Research retrieval, reasoning, and AI techniques and evaluate relevance to Fivetran AI roadmap.
• Prototype ideas quickly and ship production-grade features.
• Build and maintain back-end and front-end systems for the Fivetran AI product.
• Contribute to AISQL capability: natural language to SQL grounded in dbt metric definitions.
• Own production reliability: on-call rotation, incident response, and SRE work.
• Write tests and perform QA to catch issues before customers do.
• Use coding agents to automate repetitive tasks and free up time for design work.
• Partner with product and design to shape what gets built next.
• Develop software designs and contribute to the technical roadmap for the AI platform.
• Participate in hiring by taking part in interviews.
