Job summary

AbbVie Inc. is seeking an Associate Director in Development Sciences Finance to oversee budgeting and financial planning across internal and external R&D programs. This role supports strategic planning and ensures alignment across seven sites and multiple initiatives.

The position requires robust accounting/finance experience, strong communication, and proven leadership in a matrix org. Prior SAP/BPC knowledge is preferred, with emphasis on delivering accurate forecasts and managing capital

Qualifications

• BA in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or MBA a plus.
• 8+ years of progressive Accounting or Finance experience.
• Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills (oral and written) and ability to influence without direct authority.
• Strong project management skills, including leadership from planning to execution.
• Self-starter who operates independently and drives process improvements.
• Ability to work in a matrix organization and partner with business and finance teams.
• Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills; knowledge of SAP and BPC.

Responsibilities

• Liaison with Therapeutics Area Finance to understand financial impacts from governance funding decisions.
• Drives financial analyses for business initiatives to inform LRP objectives for Internals and Externals.
• Lead integration activities for newly acquired companies/assets into the R&D portfolio.
• Ensure cross-functional alignment on financial assumptions for Plan, LRP, and LBEs.
• Identify capacity constraints and improve visibility of budget overruns with CMOs and external services.
• Optimize resource models with R&D Strategic Resourcing to meet future demand.
