Leonardo DRS invites applications for the Senior Quality Manager position.

Job Summary

Leonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking a full‑time Senior Quality Manager for our West Plains, MO facility. This position will support the DRS Quality mission statement: “Establish a culture of innovation within DRS Quality teams, championing the deployment of superior processes in lieu of traditional inspection activities and ensuring the delivery of continuously improving value and compliance to our customers and business units.” The Senior Quality Manager will staff, train, equip, and direct the activities of quality assurance personnel, including quality engineers, inspectors, analysts, and auditors.

Job Responsibilities

Support the DRS Quality mission statement: “Establish a culture of innovation within DRS Quality teams, championing the deployment of superior processes in lieu of traditional inspection activities and ensuring the delivery of continuously improving value and compliance to our customers and business units.”
Provide quality leadership to direct reports, peers and superiors in support of the DRS mission.
Staff, train, equip, and direct the activities of quality assurance personnel including quality engineers, inspectors, analysts, and auditors.
Identify and justify capital equipment and / or technology improvements.
Maintain, execute, and improve the quality management system using departmental and company resources.
Review status of quality management system, developing and implementing actions to improve and report on the results of these actions.
Manage all ERP related quality systems / modules. Use data to drive improvement through disciplined metrics management and team projects.
Perform direct coordination with customer and suppliers during early planning phases of development and production programs.
Perform functions of Lead Auditor. Plan and conduct internal company audits including management of corrective action process.
Manage and/or contribute to direct and indirect budgets and department expenses.
Develop and review quality assurance cost estimates in support of proposal efforts.
May specialize in distinct Quality functions such as Supplier Quality, but ideally will prove competency in all Quality functions.
Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission values and culture of the organization.
Assist in the development and approval of the Standard Operating procedures (SOP).

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Applied Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related technical field.
7+ years of relevant experience.
Experience working autonomously while managing a team.
Demonstrated experience leading teams under tight deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to lead the team to prioritize tasks appropriately in meeting critical objectives.
High aptitude with mechanical/technical capabilities within a heavy manufacturing business.
Experience resolving conflicts with customers, regulatory authorities, and internal peers.
Experience leading teams resolving quality issues by completing a root‑cause analysis, identifying containment steps, then developing/implementing a corrective action plan.
Experience and/or knowledge of Heavy Manufacturing (Metal Cutting, Welding, Assembly, etc.).
Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication, collaboration, conflict resolution, and writing skills.
Experience and/or knowledge working with Special Processes (Welding, Heat Treating, Plating, etc.) or suppliers of Special Processes desired.
Experience and/or knowledge working with best practices in assembly and inspection desired.
In‑depth knowledge of AS9100 & ISO 9001 Standards desired.
ISO Lead Auditor experience desired; certification preferred.
ASQ Six Sigma Black Belt certification desired (or ability to achieve within 12 months of hire date).
ASQ CMQ/OE or CQE certification desired (or ability to achieve within 12 months of hire date).
