Senior QA Engineer
Chicago, IL – hybrid WFH (3 days remote, 2 days onsite)

Summary
This position is responsible for guiding and executing the testing of software features as part of a collaborative team including product managers and developers. This role involves leading quality reviews of custom-developed applications, including creating test plans and strategies, test cases in partnership with the development team, product owners, and business stakeholders. The goal is to shape and verify code, ensuring conformance to system requirements and acceptance criteria. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in testing both independently and as part of a team. The role also involves tracking strategic testing across multiple applications during enterprise-wide upgrades or maintenance. The candidate will review and recommend QA standards and frameworks, including manual, automated, and performance testing, as well as defect management. They will also suggest improvements for the internal quality assurance team, processes, and tools.

What you'll be doing

• Design, develop, and execute test plans in collaboration with project team members.
• Consult with project teams, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and Business Units to develop test plans, test cases, and execution procedures.
• Execute testing across various SDLC methodologies (Agile, Rapid Development, Waterfall, etc.).
• Translate functional and technical requirements into test cases and procedures.
• Recommend appropriate test execution approaches considering cost, scope, and timeline.
• Develop and execute manual and automated test cases and procedures.
• Document and track defects from identification to resolution.
• Log, reproduce, and verify defects and solutions.
• Identify test execution metrics and communicate results to the project team.
• Support resource planning by providing test execution estimates.
• Facilitate onboarding and offboarding of testing resources as needed.
• Review test results from others and help prioritize issues.
• Create and maintain quality control artifacts accessible to teams within and outside IT.
• Adhere to industry and firmwide IT quality standards and processes.
• Potentially step in as a product manager for products without an assigned Product Manager.

Skills we're seeking

• 8+ years of QA Engineering experience.
• Strong manual testing experience and willingness to continue manual testing.
• Experience testing software in Microsoft environments.
• Test automation experience is a plus, as the team may adopt more automated testing in the future.
