Job summary

Code Metal, Inc. is seeking a senior backend engineer to build Python services and data pipelines driving DoD-level wargaming simulations. You will design APIs, integrate with simulators, and shape scalable cloud infrastructure across on-prem and cloud compute.

The role emphasizes architectural leadership and mentorship. You will work on Monte Carlo workflows, scenario-generation, and campaign evaluation, ensuring reproducibility and provenance while collaborating with analysts and government

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong Python development experience and enterprise software delivery.
• Experience building backend services, APIs, and data pipelines.
• Familiarity with cloud-based distributed systems (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Experience with containerized applications (Docker) and CI/CD processes.
• Ability to provide architectural guidance and mentor staff at scale.
• Active U.S. security clearance (Secret/Top Secret) or ability to obtain one.
• Experience with REST, GraphQL, and gRPC APIs.
• Knowledge of agentic AI frameworks and related ML pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Build Python services, pipelines, and tooling that drive wargaming simulations.
• Design backend services and APIs interfacing with frontends; integrate with simulators.
• Develop lifecycle-ready data ingestion, normalization, and analysis pipelines.
• Implement distributed, cloud-scale infrastructure for scalable simulations.
• Create Monte-Carlo, sensitivity-analysis, and campaign-evaluation workflows.
• Ensure reproducibility and model provenance across environments.
• Lead SDLC practices including code review, testing, CI, and release management.
